Renheim’s reign supreme
By Youthstream | 10 Apr 2016

ALTA (Norway), 09 April 2016 – Bursts of rain across the weekend made for a gnarly circuit here in Atla, Norway, where the final rounds of the 2016 FIM Snowcross World Championship and the FIM Women’s Snowcross World Cup took place. Replicating the first round, which took place in Finland last month, the Renheim family of Adam Renheim and his sister Marica Renheim dominated the final races of the season to win the round of Norway and the championships.

SNOWCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Former two-time snowcross world champion and winner of the first round of the 2016 FIM Snowcross World Championship, Adam Renheim was untouchable all day today as he set the fastest lap in Qualifying and carried that blistering hot pace into the Final where he pulled the holeshot and dominated for yet another perfect performance.

Behind the Swedish star Renheim, fellow Swede Alexander Berglund also got off to a mega start but it would seem in the latter stages of the race his Artic Cat ran out of legs and he only managed to come home in eighth. Meanwhile, a dogfight broke out between Oskar Norum and Elias Ishoel, the two fastest riders in practice yesterday, as they went bar-to-bar for second place. The duo traded places a couple of times before Norum decided he’d had enough of eating roost and gapped Ishoel.

Aki Pihlaja, who was the runner up in the FIM Snowcross World Championship points standings heading into the second and final round here in Alta, was eager to hold onto that position. After getting off to a relatively good start, the Lynx rider was dropped back a spot on lap three when Ishoel found an opening and made the move.

At the checkers, Adam Renheim confirmed himself as the deserving 2016 FIM Snowcross World Champion with a convincing win ahead of Norum, Ishoel, Pihlaja and Viktor Herten.

After two rounds of awesome snowcross action, Adam Renheim from Sweden took his third FIM Snowcross World Championship title, while Finland’s Aki Pihlaja did enough this weekend to be crowned vice-world champion. Rounding off the podium, Nisse Kjellstrom finished sixth this weekend, which combined with his third place at the opening round, was enough to wrap up this season as the FIM Snowcross World Championship bronze medalist.

FIM WOMEN’S SNOWCROSS WORLD CUP

There was a touch of Déjà vu this weekend as the same uber fast ladies that stole the show at the first round of the FIM Women’s Snowcross World Cup in Finland, did the same thing again at this rough and gnarly circuit of Alta. At the start it was Marica Renheim, the sister of the now three-time FIM Snowcross World Champion Adam Renheim, who took the holeshot and checked out to win by 11 seconds over Emilia Dahlgren. Just as she did at round one, Dahlgren started second and rode a mega race to finish a further 12 seconds ahead of Malene Andersen who was third.

Meanwhile Matilda Norberg charged hard in the opening laps to pass Sarl Tanninen, which she managed to do on the second lap. Norberg then pulled away for fourth while Tanninen rounded out the top five.

With identical results at both rounds of the FIM Women’s Snowcross World Cup, Marica Renheim was the clear champion ahead of Emilia Dahlgren and Malene Andersen.
